I went to see this film
with my sister and my Mum and we were the only ones in the cinema. Not the best
start, but I continued to watch it anyway and am so glad I did. This is
probably one of the most beautiful and romantic films I have ever seen! From
the relationship of the two characters to their surroundings, every scene is
breathtaking! The Notebook tells the story of a summer romance that turns into
a romance never to be forgotten. Allie and Noah are the two lead characters and
they are wonderful. You immediately fall in love with the characters and you
want to follow every step of their doomed love story. it is one of the greatest
love stories ever told. Look out for the lake scene, unbelievable! I came out
of the cinema wanting to go back in again and watch it all over again. It feels
like you are reading a diary watching this film, that's how detailed and
wonderful this film is. Cannot really give too much away about the story, all I
can say is if you haven't seen this film yet, be sure to see it. I cannot think
of a film more perfect for Valentines Day!

The
adaptation of Nicholas Sparks' novel is possibly the best interpretation of
all. Gosling and McAdams really make the film better than anyone expected. The
visualisation from Nick Cassavetes places this film atop one of the most
memorable, cult-like, romance films of all time. 4.5/5

Heartwarming
romantic movie that gives your insides go mushy with emotions. This is the
bestest love story I have ever seen! The result is a beautifully produced
version of Nicholas Sparks's book.
The movie gallops in speed as we are absorbed into the great plot and brilliant acting of all the cast involved.

Following the tradition of Fried Green Tomatoes, this romantic weepy relates a tale in the hope that its modern-day protagonists รน who may well have played a part in the story themselves - will be better for hearing it.
But, on film at least, this story might have been better without its modern-day protagonists, played by James Garner and Gena Rowlands (Cassavetes' mother). Garner's narration smacks of greeting-card sentiment and the Alzheimer's storyline, in which Rowlands' character has lost her memory, is oversimplified.
Thank goodness, then, for the magic created by young stars Ryan Gosling and Rachel McAdams, whose intense romance is played out with conviction and an infectious joie de vivre. Little in their journey is unexpected: you're waiting for the obstacle (after all, what self-respecting young lady in the 1940s would have been seen without two handsome suitors to compete over her?), and the solution is not hard to spot, either.
But thanks to delightful characters, careful pacing and a stirring score, this film achieves the distinction of being exceptionally moving without anyone major having to die.
This review is from a member of the public posted on Empire. The review is longer than the others and it gives a brief overview of the plot giving it a good review. This reviewer comments on the cast and states how they think it could have been better without the modern-day protagonists. The reviewer gives the film an overall distinction for it being exceptionally moving.
MY REVIEW
★★★★★
This film is the most loving and emotional film i have ever seen. From the start is automatically attracts you to watch it all and even watch it again when its finished! Nick Cassavetes delivers a romantic melodrama which is set in the 40's with the great actors Gosling (From The Believer) and Adams (From Mean Girls) who cook up an unlikely degree of sexual chemistry, but it all ends in heartache. The film has been produced in a clever way which makes it easy to understand the plot, but you do not expect the ending! The film will make you laugh, cringe and even cry and it will leave romantics blubbing and full of love.
